When you’re looking to install new external LED displays for your business there are a number of things you need to consider, not least of all the weather.
We’re not just talking about picking the right conditions to install your signage, but more thinking about how the elements will affect your display in the long term, and doing what you can to ensure it stays working as it should for the longest possible time.
Retail Customer Experience recently highlighted some of the issues to think about, including temperature variation throughout the year - something that’s particularly important in the UK - and rainfall.
Humidity levels are another thing to keep an eye on, as are winds and whether your signage is likely to be exposed to strong gusts on a regular basis.
Basically, you need to think about anything that could potentially damage your sign and work out a way of combating it. Of course, any external signage will be designed to withstand the likes of rain, but you should take extra care with connections, as these are often weak points for electrical devices installed externally.
If you aren’t sure if you should go for a new external LED sign, it might be worth watching the conditions in the spot where you plan to install it for a week or two first. Hopefully that will help you ascertain whether this is a place that’s particularly prone to gusts of winds, or somewhere that rainwater runoff could have an impact, for instance.
As well as the physical safety of your signage, you should also think about cyber security when you’re installing any digital signs.
