The next few years are going to be critical for the LED display market, with the outdoor division expected to excel due to the increase in popularity of electronic signs on billboards, at airports, shopping centres and sports stadiums.
According to the Outdoor LED Display Market Report, the sector is expected to exceed the value of $22.4 billion (£17.12 billion) over the next six years due to this growing demand for LED signs.
A spokesperson for the report said: “The outdoor LED display market has particularly benefited from the globalisation of sporting events and the large number of sports tournaments held every year.”
This type of signage has become preferable over others due to its brightness, high-quality screens, enhanced resolutions, good pitching and durability, allowing them to withstand adverse weather conditions when placed outdoors.
In addition to this, LED panels can be flexible, enabling brands to use them in huge displays that will definitely attract the attention of their potential customers.
While traditional LED illuminations, such as traffic lights still account for a significant proportion of the global outdoor LED display market, the increasing use of this technology for commercial purposes “is anticipated to propel the outdoor LED display market size from 2016 to 2024”.
Sports venues, in particular, have taken a shine to using LED displays to show scores, adverts and messages to spectators during games. For instance, Daktronics has recently installed four LED boards measuring 9ft by 16.5ft at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina, according to Digital Signage Connection.
