If you’re shopping around for external LED boards, you probably aren’t going to want one quite on the scale of that used at the Amazon Web Services re:Invent 2017 cloud user conference recently, given that it spanned the length of a football field.
However, this incredible installation does give you an insight into what’s now possible with LED displays - and how they can be scaled up.
AV Magazine reported on the use of the 300-foot long LED screen, which was set up by event staging company WorldStage.
In previous years, projections have been used for the main screens at the conference stages, but this year organisers decided that LED screens were a better option. In addition to the giant screen in the centre, there were 60-foot long LED screens to the right and left of the stage as well.
Michael May, WorldStage vice president of account management, explained that the number of attendees at the conference keeps growing each year.
“This year, it took a full minute and 15 seconds to walk from one end to the other of the keynote session’s primary upstage LED screen. It was huge,” he asserted.
With bendable LED screens currently in development in Japan, who knows what next year’s conference will look like. That said, it may take a while for this technology to be able to reach the scale seen at the Amazon Web Services conference.
The team behind the innovation don’t plan to unveil their revolutionary LED screen until spring 2019, so we have a little while to wait before we can see not only how this looks, but also how it performs in comparison to more standard LED screens.
